About the Image(s)
For this month I decided to try out some editing tricks and aimed for a more whimsical feel. I took the photo at Turkey Run state park in Indiana using my iphone 13pro. My goal was to focus on the orange tree and draw out those colors. The main difficulty is that my subject is a little lost in the image. I would have preferred a more isolated tree and I should have taken a few steps back to get more of the tree in focus. To draw the tree out I increased contrast, decreased highlights and increased the shadows. I then altered the colors to try and draw out the oranges, yellows and greens while muting the blues.

I have been to Turkey Run many times. I think your evaluation is accurate.   Posted: 11/08/2023 20:00:56
Hi Jacob,
Nice capture and editing.
Just a few comments:
1) when walking amongst these tall trees, it is difficult not to point the camera above the horizon line. Unfortunately, this creates a distortion and gives the impression that the trees are falling backward (this is a big no-no in architectural photography). To avoid this, I use a wide-angle lens and keep my camera leveled. This can also be fairly well corrected using the perspective tools
2) the contrast between the very bright sky and the very dark underwood makes it hard to determine the best exposure. I prefer to bracket my shots and use HDR (natural) as needed. The biggest issue with HDR in this context is the wind! Because of this, I normally use only one of my bracketed images.
Fantastic capture and processing using an iPhone.   Posted: 11/09/2023 09:07:37

I think a camera would have done better than the iPhone for this image. Then you could isolate the subject tree better. I wasn't sure what to look at and the bright sky always works against us. :(   Posted: 11/13/2023 16:28:27
This image does not thrill me. The colors are good but nothing catches the eye. There is no foreground element to lead the eye in to the picture. I think including some foreground, even if it means sacrificing the tops of the trees would make this picture more interesting. I guess you cannot be too clever when you're using iPhone.
