A couple of weeks ago I noticed a large mute swan swimming by our waterfront so I grabbed my camera and walked outside to take a few pics. As I was shooting an eagle literally flew into my viewfinder so, of course, I switched shooting to the eagle. My camera settings were not optimum for bird in flight photography but I did get a few images with the head and body in good focus. Since the shutter speed was relatively slow, the wingtips are a bit out of focus. I can't really decide if this is a problem or not. I did get an image where every part is on good focus because the wings were at the apex and therefore not moving quickly. I have attached that image too. Maybe that would be a preferred image?
Taken with my Sony A7RV, 1/320, f9.0, ISO 125, 200mm.

Hi Dean. Great shot. As the Eagle's wings are almost perpendicular to your angle of view, I believe that the little blur on the tip of the wings is due to motion (you were at 1/320 sec). Great cropping.
I like it!   Posted: 11/09/2023 08:53:22

That makes sense; thanks Pierre.

This image is definitely better than your second image for the following reasons:
Diagonal composition,
face and eye are not in shadow and are perfectly sharp,
The wing tips convey the speed at which they fly.
Great capture. Well done!   Posted: 11/10/2023 15:13:02
This is a nice image.Looking at the two photos I think your main one works better as we get to see the face clearly. I think the crop was well done also. Overall it is well done.   Posted: 11/13/2023 14:09:36

I like the image you submitted and I like the wing tips showing action. The detail in the feathers is very nice. Great shot!   Posted: 11/13/2023 16:22:12

I like the blur on the wing tips and the sharp focus on the eagle's face. This picture is better than the side on pose and I think sharper too. BIF is not easy. Good capture.   Posted: 11/18/2023 14:34:06
