About the Image(s)

I took this picture returning from a few days camping at Padre Island (I got lots of bird pictures for upcoming months) at a roadside pull-out. These two butterflies were playing "tag"; maybe a male was chasing a female. I was happy to get a clear image of both butterflies with wings folded and wings open in the air.. I removed a twig which partially occluded the wing of the butterfly on the right. Sony A7r IV, f5.6, 1/1000, 200mm, 1s0 400. I could probably remove the twig in front of the butterfly on the right but I don't think it would make much of a difference.

Great catch! Impressive that you could get good sharpness on both butterflies at the same time! Maybe darkening a bit the background would help to isolate these insects better.

Well done on removing the distracting twig from the wing.
You seem to have attempted to blur the background - I would prefer a lot more blur to make it less messy.
I would also crop a lot closer particularly to get rid of that grass in the upper right corner. Remember to always check your edges!   Posted: 01/11/2022 14:26:40

I love your butterflies! If you are not competing in a Club or PSA Nature, you can take out all the twigs, and "clean it out". What a great capture!   Posted: 01/11/2022 19:23:14

Thanks Brenda. I don't plan to enter any PSA contests with this image.   Posted: 01/11/2022 20:22:10

Well done Dean, great to get the two and get them in focus, not easy.   Posted: 01/12/2022 22:32:45

The removal of the twig was a good choice. I agree with the others that darkening the photo may help to bring out some more detail in the butterflies.   Posted: 01/25/2022 08:24:55
