Dead Horse State Park by Dean Ginther

December 2021 - Dead Horse State Park

About the Image(s)

This image was taken at Dead Horse State Park UT. I went out there this October about an hour before sunset with Glen Randall and several other photographers to take night sky pictures but the sky was overcast. That was a disappointment but sometimes overcast skies create opportunities for B/W. This pano (two or three images) was taken with a Sony A7r 4, a Sony Gmaster 14mm, 1/400, F8. Barely visible near the bottom of the image is the oxbow bend in the Colorado River.

Dean, you found a beautiful sky even though it was overcast. The interesting rock formation in the foreground leads the viewer into the image. Good work putting the pano together.   Posted: 12/04/2021 15:48:04

Wow, I thought the mid-ground were waves! I saw it was in Dead Horse, and I knew there was no water there. So I looked again and again, and finally realized it was rock. Great leading lines in your foreground and middle ground. No suggestions, its great!   Posted: 12/05/2021 21:03:59

Dean great to see a landscape. The clouds form a great part of the pic as already said they lead in to the pic perfectly. Great rock formation. Would love to have seen it from a drone.   Posted: 12/08/2021 12:25:46

Me too; too bad most State and National Park in the U.S. forbid any drone flights.   Posted: 12/08/2021 13:59:43

Same in Aus Dean. I don't use mine often for that reason.   Posted: 12/08/2021 16:41:19

Great capture that works so well in B&W. I agree that at first I thought the rocks were waves!
I would prefer the horizon line to be less close to the middle of the picture - maybe crop just a little off the top.   Posted: 12/10/2021 14:28:10

Yes, that's a great suggestion Mervyn. It has us moving even faster into the rocks/water...lol!   Posted: 12/21/2021 19:12:18

This is a lovely photo. I didn't realize it was rock formations until I read the description. I believe the black and white works well for this and makes it more engaging.   Posted: 12/31/2021 23:31:51
