Gannets Meeting by Geoff Wiggins, FAPS

November 2021 - Gannets Meeting

About the Image(s)

It is getting time to put another pic on. This one is of the gannets meeting. I have no ides how they pic their partner out amongst the crowd. They all look alike to me. 1/2000sec f8 500mm ISO 20. My standard setting for such shots in the Aust sun.

Oh, so beautiful! Great job not overexposing the whites in the Aussie sun. The blue/gold complementary colors are fabulous.

I'd think about bringing out his eyes, and maybe some of the dating gannets. You might consider giving him just a tiny more room at the top and the left, the wing tips seem a little tight.

Where does one go in Australia to see something like this?   Posted: 11/05/2021 20:50:34

Thanks for your constructive comments Brenda. I could easily make those changes.   Posted: 11/06/2021 01:05:07

Nice image. I love Gannets. The color mix and the tapestry effect are lovely. There is also a story of the presumed female greeting her mate for a small available landing area near her. The positioning of the incoming presumed male is fantastic.
I agree with Brenda re having a little more room on the top and left of the image.   Posted: 11/09/2021 11:48:50

Thanks Pierre I can put a little more room as you suggested, my thoughts wright or wrong were to try to draw as much attention to the bird on the ground as possible. It was a meeting.   Posted: 11/09/2021 23:09:10

Once again I am wowed by your bird images, Geoff. The colors are great and you have achieved good depth of field despite using an aperture of f8.
There is a gannet colony in South Africa that I have visited, but it is so difficult to get any separation. So well done with this composition.   Posted: 11/09/2021 15:37:10

Beautiful image, Geoff. Gannets are so graceful. I think that a vignette as well as slightly darkening all the other birds except for the mate on the rocks would bring more interest to the image.   Posted: 11/13/2021 13:40:26

A great bird pic. You caught the wings a at lovely position. And what an interesting visual connection between those two birds.   Posted: 11/14/2021 15:36:45
