October 2021 - Flower

About the Image(s)

This image was a bit of an experiment. This flower was growing along the lakeshore in late September, a couple of weeks ago. The image was handheld, F5.6, 1/40, 200mm, iso 100, Sony A7r-IV. In post, I desaturated the image and then re-saturated the yellows and greens a bit.

Always good to try something new Dean. I like the background but would have probably left the flower to the left out and focused more on the flowers to the right and placed them a little lower in the pic. Only a thought.   Posted: 10/10/2021 09:45:43

Fun experiment! I like Geoff's ideas. I played with it a bit. Here's where I selected subject and cut out the flowers (very badly, sorry!) and then used Gaussian blur to blur the background. My idea was to remove the distractions of the white stems in the background creating a lot of business. It's quickly done, but you get the idea.   Posted: 10/10/2021 18:30:27

To minimize the bright background stems, here I just darkened the stems. Certainly not a perfect job, but you can see how it helps the flowers pop   Posted: 10/10/2021 18:31:56

Nice work, Dean. It is always better to have an odd number of subjects. There are some bright areas that would probably benefit from some darkening. I do agree that the background is distracting. Toning it down would probably help.   Posted: 10/11/2021 14:48:41

You are very creative Dean - this is something that I need to work on!
Very difficult subject but good creative work. I like the suggestions brought forward by Brenda.
This is a fun group to learn different techniques.
Keep on the good work.   Posted: 10/13/2021 16:34:13

Nice creative work in the post process, Dean. I agree that the background is too busy.   Posted: 10/14/2021 15:44:43

Thanks everyone. We are traveling out west and don't have consistent internet so my comments will be limited this month.
