About the Image(s)

For this month I have a flower photo from a local bog. I took this photo using my iPhone 6s on a cloudy day. It was taken around noon so the light was a little harsh so the original photo was taken with a higher contrast then my iPhone’s natural settings. When editing it I increased the contrast, lowered exposure and cropped the photo.

I think this flower should be cropped even more. The pink bud in the distance on the left side is a distraction. And I wonder if the overall sharpness is good enough. It appears a bit soft on my screen.

Good job, Jacob. You have three buds, the pretty pink one really pops. An odd number is always a good choice. The pink bud is in a prominent position and pulls the eye right into the image. Darkening the background, especially the pink buds should give a top notch image.   Posted: 09/12/2021 14:19:46

Hi Jacob,
I find flowers to be a very difficult subject for photography. I worked on your image and tried to address the appropriate comments above. I would have like to have a different angle on the flower (from the top?).
Your photography technique is improving rapidly. With flowers, I am trying different angles, different backgrounds, etc... sometimes just moving a little to the right or left can make a huge difference.   Posted: 09/12/2021 15:10:48

I think this is your best work to date. A very nice crisp bloom and its on a diagonal. It's also an interesting bloom. Pink and green are complementary colors on the color wheel, which makes it a stronger image.

Do try to shoot at dawn or dusk, as the harsh light in your past photos hurts your overall photo quality. However, this is a nice improvement!   Posted: 09/21/2021 19:19:58
