About the Image(s)
I took this picture last summer on a boat on Lake Winepesaukee. I loved the long triangles of the clouds mimicked by the long triangle of the mountain. In post processing I cropped out the top to make it a pano and enhanced the orange glow of sunset.
Settings: Canon 7D, Mark II, 24-70mm lens shot at 40mm, 1/320 sec, f11, ISO 400.

You do have a nice, colorful sky to work with, but at least in my opinion, you need a stronger subject than just the clouds. Maybe it y9u opened the shadows of the foreground you could build some interest that way. When I see a sky like this you can hear me screaming "quick, I have to find a foreground" and then comes the frantic search.. When you see a sky like this forming, that is the time to start searching. OK, now you have my 2 cents worth.   Posted: 10/12/2024 19:24:12

Thanks Larry. I was on a boat, so the search for a foreground was at best difficult.   Posted: 10/13/2024 20:12:58

Easy to solve. You get in the back of the boat, pose someone else in the front of the boat to make the foreground. Maybe with binos and searching the horizon. It might not be a "nature" photo but could still be an interesting photo.   Posted: 10/13/2024 20:54:33

Wonderful colors in the sky Dave. I will agree with Larry. There needs to be an anchor for all that beauty to make it stand out from the thousands of beautiful sky shots out there. Being on a boat sure hampers your options. You could try lighting up the trees in the foreground and see if that would add some interest to the photo. There are several layers of foreground to work with. Adding light and dark tones to the layers would highlight that area. I like the panorama crop. I may have even cropped a little more.   Posted: 10/17/2024 00:42:50

David - I've heard of Lake Winnipesaukee but not Lake Winepesaukee. Is it different? I'm not trying to nitpick, But as a geographer, place names matter to me. Anyway, I love the color captured in the clouds. Cheers.   Posted: 10/19/2024 23:17:49

This is so pretty. I like the repeating triangle shapes, as you noted. This works well as a panoramic format, not just to eliminate the dark sky but to emphasize all those repeating shapes. The bit of light on the stand of trees on the right is a nice highlight. For me, this is a really nice shot.   Posted: 10/24/2024 02:15:42
