About the Image(s)
Black bears (Ursus americanus) gather in early August every summer to Anan Creek in the Tongass National Forest in southeastern Alaska for the Pink Salmon run. A series of cascades make the fish easy pickings for the bears.

Going through some older photo files, I’m finding that the new software allows me to bring out the scene as it appeared when it was shot. I used Topaz Photo Ai to remove noise, sharpen, and increase the photo’s size??”so easy now. I then used LRC to crop and used its masking to remove the glare.

Bud,
What a great moment! I just came back from a trip to Alaska to photo brown bears catching salmon. Great fun to watch!
What threw me as I looked over this photo was the tonality of the bears vs the tonality of the rocks and water. It took me a while to see the upper bear on the left. My eye went to the white water and rocks in the foreground. Suggest reducing the white in the water and the rocks in the forground and increase the shadows and clarity on the bears so they pop out more.   Posted: 10/08/2024 00:29:54

This is a most unusual image of a pair of bears fishing. This is something you rarely see unless the bears are Grizzlies fishing for salmon. While I like the shot I feel like it lacks contrast and is a bit over exposed, The bears just look a bit washed out. You might try playing with the exposure and then use masks to recover the bears. Since you have extra space in the original I would suggest trying to add a bit of space along the left edge so the bear is not so close to the edge.   Posted: 10/12/2024 19:16:27

This is a different photo of bears for sure. I agree, the image seems washed out. Some contrast between the Bears and the rock would really heighten the bears in the scene. This photo is so unusual that it deserves some time spent to make it stand out. The bear on the right seems to be in motion but blends in with the rock and loses that feeling of action. This is a great photo, Bud. I hope you spend some more editing time and see what happens.   Posted: 10/17/2024 00:30:11

This is such a cool capture, I love the positions of the bears on opposite corners both intent on fishing. I tried playing with it a bit to try to make the bears stand out more. A bit more contrast (clarity and dehaze), and then selectively darkening the lower bear while brightening the head of the upper bear. I don't like the muddy water but I didn't go back and undo that. This is worth working on some more as others have said.   Posted: 10/24/2024 02:05:46
