About the Image(s)

Our trip to Costa Rica was fantastic. We spent the first week relaxing with our entire family and then joined a wildlife photography tour. The main thrust of the tour was bird photography (5000+ bird images) which was amazing, but left little opportunity for IR.
This was taken on a a very rainy and misty day. I am quite surprised how much I was able extract from the original. After the lifepixel action, I took it into Color Efex. Used pro contrast, Glamor glow, Darken Lighten.
After converting to mono, I decided on a bluish tone.
I look forward to your comments.

Hi Melanie
"WOW"! This is a terrific image, beautifully processed and presented. An ideal subject for IR.
On a minor point, would you possibly consider flipping the image!!   Posted: 08/02/2022 00:48:03

Thanks Palli. I will look at flipping. It does not occur to me when showing nature.   Posted: 08/02/2022 14:00:01

Heh Melanie...wonderful. I like the composition and the overall 'feel' of this very much. I might try to tone it differently just to see how you like it compared to the blue tone. Well seen, especially with little time for IR photography in Costa Rica!   Posted: 08/02/2022 07:59:42

Thanks Gary, I never use a blue tone, and dont' know why it appealed to me this time! Maybe because it was such a misty rainy day.   Posted: 08/02/2022 14:01:56

Hi Melanie. Nicely composed and handled landscape IR image. While I usually go for warmer monochrome tones, I find your toning here to work well for this picture. You captured the beauty of this natural scene. I'm glad you had a great and productive trip.   Posted: 08/02/2022 10:00:04

Beautiful scene, well handled. I tend toward neutral colors in my own BW work, but I think your toning works well here.   Posted: 08/02/2022 11:22:21

Glad you enjoyed Costa Rica, Melanie. I can just feel the humidity, nice sense of mood, and good use of a misty day. I like the different texture in the foreground trees.   Posted: 08/02/2022 14:26:17

Such a gorgeous scene you brought back from your trip. Tony Sweet always likes to shoot IR on rainy days...The blue works for me in this scene.

I wonder if you were to darken the foliage on either side of the water fall just a smidge to help it stand out a bit more, and possible add a little dodging to the falling water too.

I hope you have a few more shots from your trio for us

Melanie, with that "other camera" I hope you captured a photo of a Resplendent Quetzal while in Costa Rica. However I like this IR image of a waterfall in a dense tropical forest (we are used to seeing waterfalls in barren rocky landscapes). My only suggestion is to keep the waterfall white so it contrasts better.   Posted: 08/08/2022 14:49:52
