About the Image(s)

This is one of the first successful images using my IPhone as an IR camera with a 720nm filter. The challenge was learning how to use the camera software which finally “clicked” during a webinar hosted by Rad Drew. This approach may or may not achieve rave results but I love the convenience and the tools will only get better.

Equipment purchased to get IR capability Moment case and lens mount, lens mount and a 52mm 720nm filter prescribed by Rad Drew. For details join his FaceBook group: OpenGroup!Infrared on the IPhone.
Workflow: I transferred the IPhone image to my IMac and then rendered it into in BW using Silver Efex. I used the LR Classic radial filter to burn the sky in particular.
Shot with IPhone 13 Pro using Camera+2 software 30 sec exposure (per Rad’s process) using a small tripod. White Balance set to 1400 K. Wide Lens. I plan to look at 10 and 20 sec exposure to see how they look

Hi Emil. Congratulations for your new toy. The picture is great. I like the composition with the long leading road and the overall treatment. The arched tree at the top is perfect. Nicely done.   Posted: 06/01/2022 18:33:35

Hi Emil,
Rad's a friend of mine and has done some fantastic things with the iPhones. This is no exception. I like it very much. As you know by now, I'm more of a higher contrast/pure whites kind of IR photographer, so I felt compelled to play with your image. See what you think...Detail Extractor applied to only there forested area, levels and curves adjusted for a bit more punch. Note I cropped out some of the foreground roadway.   Posted: 06/02/2022 10:48:23

That curve in the road is priceless, Emil! What a great vantage point, everything just comes together. The "stripes" in the road at left, add to the leading lines effect. I think yours and Garys edits both make great images, and while yours is the less common, it resonates more with me.   Posted: 06/02/2022 21:49:08

Emil, as you have noticed and commented on with images I have submitted, paths, roads and trails are ideal compositional elements for IR images. So it is with the image you shared with us. However, this road not only S-curves away, but also twists upward rendering a very fetching image.   Posted: 06/06/2022 15:36:11

Terrific image and it's fun seeing an example from someone using Rad's technique. I really like Gary's processing, but I personally prefer your original crop. It feels more dramatic.   Posted: 06/06/2022 15:47:51

Hi Emil, The time is coming when all people will use will be their phones for photography! I fear that I will be the little old lady left behind! Really it is just great how amazing the cell phone ability has progressed. Love that there is IR capabilities too.
You start with a great composition. There is a flatness and I believe that there is lovely light within the trees which you can find and will give the contrast that is missing. Hope we see more IPhone IR from you.   Posted: 06/08/2022 09:12:03
