About the Image(s)

Those of you old timers in the group will forgive the similarity to one of my first images back in 2017, hopefully enough time has elapsed. But I have an affinity for scenes like this. This time, in northern Arizona, I actually stopped the car and stepped out to shoot the cloudscape and high desert, with badlands in the distance. I processed for true whites and blacks, though some might want to take it even farther. Do you agree with my removing the contrails? And the touch of sepia?

Hi Jack
It seems both you and Melanie were thinking along the same lines with the straight road making it a focal point.
! I do like the amazing clouds and the way you've captured them. My only quibble is that the foreground could have marginally darker + the application of Nik's Darker / Lighten filter. Wonder if you'd consider doing that! Nonetheless a great shot.   Posted: 05/01/2022 05:20:16

Thank you Palli, I think you're on to something, which Henry picked up on also; I agree.   Posted: 05/02/2022 10:25:51

Hi Jack. Great perspective. It's funny that I just asked Melanie if she also took the scene in her picture from the middle of the road. I often do that and have the road lead the viewer through the scene. I like your composition with the sky taking the majority of the space. The clouds are beautiful. Nicely done.   Posted: 05/01/2022 06:12:52

Another great road picture! I love the sky and the distant subject. Since you are so close to having a centered composition, I'd suggest going all the way and cropping in from the left edge and putting the road's center line in the center. I agree with Arik's point about darkening the foreground, but would apply it more to the fields to either side of the road and leave the road a bit brighter.   Posted: 05/01/2022 08:31:12

Thank you, Henry and welcome to the group! I hadn't noticed I was just a bit off the center line. And good point on darkening the fields just a bit.   Posted: 05/02/2022 10:24:46

Greetings, Jack!
I did nothing more than set a black point and a white point in LEVELS, plus darkened the entire image a dash. I also added a mild burn to the side grasses. To my eye, it adds more drama and impact to a wonderfully composed image.   Posted: 05/03/2022 09:41:46

Ah Jack, We are like minded this month. I just love that sky. It adds drama and perspective. You are much smarted that I in that you know to take this kind of image from the middle of the road! I do think that darkening the fields will highlight the edge grasses. BTW I like that it is a little off center. Well seen   Posted: 05/08/2022 15:42:57

Stop the car and take a picture. Thankfully you did just that.

The clouds are killer here and everything below leads toward them

In my view there are so many ways to render this image because of the scene quality upon capture; all of them will be good. I would make a few copies and experiment.

I apologize for my late comments
