About the Image(s)

This picturesque and often photographed footbridge was taken in Somesville, a small town fairly near Bar Harbor in Maine.
The setting is just so inviting to photographers. As most images there are taken in color (the leaves were just beginning to change their color) IR seemed the answer for something a little different. Having a pond with a reflection just added to the scene.
Adjusted in Nik color efex to add some detail, glow and contrast. Converted to Black and white using Photoshop and then Select Color to to adjust the tones.
ISO 200 50mm F8

Hi Melanie. I've been to this place and photographed it a few times, but never with an infrared camera. What a great choice you made. You created something unique and beautiful where other pictures are more of a cliché (Yes, mine too).   Posted: 11/02/2021 19:34:27

Hi Melanie,

Just...SUPERB. There's not a thing I can suggest to change. IR was clearly the winning choice.   Posted: 11/03/2021 18:52:51

Melanie, it is about time someone took an IR image of this iconic scene. I brought my family to Acadia many times. We stayed in Southwest Harbor near Somesville. I particularly like your use of a reflection. For my eye, I'd experiment with decreasing details to soften the image, making it more dream-like.   Posted: 11/03/2021 21:56:53

Thank you Chuck. I did look at it again and used clarify to remove some detail. I really do like the dreamy effect that was created. Loved the suggestion.   Posted: 11/09/2021 16:10:50

I had never heard of this place, so this is quite fresh to me, and beautiful, Melanie! I love the way you've set it up with the barn at far left, etc. It seems to have the slightest tilt right, to me, but as no one else has picked up on that, could be "just me". It would be nice if one could bring out the reflection even more, and as Charles said, take it more of a dream like direction.   Posted: 11/04/2021 11:25:40

Thanks Jack, I do see that the reflection needs more work I did work on straightening, and will check it again.   Posted: 11/09/2021 16:14:34

Hi M4elanie
Scene executed brilliantly in IR. Post-processing superbly handled. Lots of things to be absorbed. I like it the way it is.   Posted: 11/04/2021 23:25:00

Hey Palli, No worries about the typo (I had not noticed it)

Such a great scene IR and I can imagine the color in the fall. The contrast, the arched footbridge bridge, and the reflections are simply exquisite.

I have nit for you to consider, my eye is telling me the white building is not quite vertical. A LR transforming in auto will make a slight adjustment to make image perfection.

Well done
