About the Image(s)

This is an image of the Vatnajökull Ice Cap taken recently at Skaftafell National Park in Iceland. In PS 2021 I converted it to black & white then processed it further using Nik Silver Efex Pro. Channeling Ansel Adams, I strived to achieve the right contrast between the whites in the glaciers and clouds against the blacks in the sky. Finally, the image was cropped slightly to emphasize the landscape format. Camera data: Nikon D7000 (Life Pixel conversion 590nm filter), 16mm, f/10, 1/320th, ISO = 160.

It's a beautiful landscape, Charles, but to me it feels a little underexposed. I get that you were after the black sky, and I agree that works well. But I like the exposure of the bottom half, better in the original version. I think the reflection would pop more, and we'd get some detail in the scrub beyond that, if brightened a bit. Just a thought ;)
It piques my interest in wanting to visit this area some day!   Posted: 09/01/2021 18:06:03

Beautiful scene and picture. The composition is perfect. I would try it with less contrast, similar to the original or just a bit brighter.   Posted: 09/03/2021 08:43:56

Such a beautiful place that you had the pleasure to visit and photograph.

I too feel the foreground needs to be just touch lighter

Emil, Arik, & Jack, thank you for suggesting lightening the foreground area. Indeed, a lot of interesting detail is lost there and if the pond pops more Ansel will be smiling.   Posted: 09/03/2021 21:18:01

An image full of impact, Charles. Composition just as great.
As the others have said to lighten the foreground just a little would help ... and I tend to agree with them.   Posted: 09/03/2021 23:34:18

Hi Charles,

Magnificent. My only suggestion, and I noted this the second I opened your image, is that the foreground needs a whiter cloud reflection to give the image more balance. The foreground and mid-ground are quite dark.   Posted: 09/05/2021 16:30:09

Lovely scene Chuck. I like what you have included in your final composition. I think there is too much contrast in the bottom half, which if reduced will make it fabulous.   Posted: 09/12/2021 20:01:29
