About the Image(s)

I had a hill top vantage point for this image which gave a broader perspective of the rolling wheat fields and patterns therein, below.
I’m thinking maybe the creek up top is extraneous and better cropped out; what do you think?

A nicely composed and processed image, Jack. Side lighting has made all the difference, creating sweeping curves. I'd leave the crop as is and it works for me. Well done!   Posted: 07/03/2021 23:02:24

Hi Jack, I like it as presented. The soft tones work for me in this pastoral scene, Nicely done.   Posted: 07/04/2021 08:45:44

The Palouse is such a great place to photograph color or IR. You capture the rolling terrain perfectly with shadows and lights to bring out the 3D.

I decided to act on your suggestion of cropping the creek in the top. I removed a sliver on the right hand side and a little on the top. I removed the poles etc so only the wheat and the tractor lines remained. I then played with shadows and lights for 3D and darker the lines created by the tractor. Food for thought

Thanks, Emil. I like your crop, and I definitely agree with taking out that pole in the middle. The tones are somber, moody which is a little different but works, too.   Posted: 07/05/2021 16:12:35

Delightful Jack! Tones and textures are great. I have no problem with your crop, in fact I enjoy being led into the distance. The strong vertical line in the center does bother me and wonder if you would consider removing it. If not how about toning it down to match others that are in the image. Either way you really make me want to visit this area. All your images from there are lovely.   Posted: 07/05/2021 13:18:41

Hi Jack,
Another top notch image...the creek at the top can stay in my opinion...it adds another variable line to the composition. The subtle treatment of the tones is your style, and I sure like it. My one and only trip to the Palouse only made me yearn to be back another day! Jack, in the attached version, the ONLY thing I did was move the Levels slider over to the left until it just barely touched the Whites...and I like the very modest contrast difference a bit better. NO CONTRAST added...like I'd normally do for my own!   Posted: 07/05/2021 14:42:11

Very nice, Gary! I'll remember that next time. Thanks for the edit.   Posted: 07/05/2021 16:11:01

Jack, what a very pleasing abstraction. I agree, the stream is a distraction as are the poles. I also agree with suggestions made by others to rebalance the whites and blacks to push the dynamic range a notch or two.   Posted: 07/09/2021 14:59:22
