About the Image(s)

This is an image of a path near the Shenandoah National Park. I like the contrasts in textures between the smooth manicured lawn and the rough wild forest; the shadows created by the late afternoon sun accentuate this effect. In addition to a little cropping, not much else was done. To bring out more texture and detail, I ran the image through a couple Nik Silver Efex Pro preset options and to heighten the highlights in the trees I used the dodge tool at a very low setting. Camera data: Nikon D7000 (590 nm), f/13, 1/125, 95 mm, ISO = 250.

Hi Charles
A well composed subject with the lead-in line of the path. Glimpses of highlights on trees help ... as does the broken shadows on the road. Everything has been so well considered and executed. Top marks!   Posted: 07/04/2021 01:14:24

Hi Charles. Very nicely done. The composition and tones are beautiful. The diagonal road and the shadows on the right create a very dynamic picture. Yesterday, when I looked at the picture on my laptop, I thought that the little bright triangle (highlight between the trees in the bottom left third) was a bit distracting, but it looks fine on the large screen. Great find and capture.   Posted: 07/04/2021 08:50:38

Great example of contrast in textures with a meandering path taking you deeper into the scene. There are several trees along the path that are showing white so I thought I try to add a touch more along the trunks.

Hi Chuck, We are invited to meander through this image. light and shadows are so well handled. I am wondering about the perspective. I know the tree trunks are all straight, but the driveway looks unnatural to me. I put it into Nik Perspective, using auto this is the result. What do you think?   Posted: 07/05/2021 13:29:22

I like the composition just the way it is, but I thought a blacker black in the tree shadows and a dash of contrast might make the presentation a bit more dramatic. See what you think. This is a really strong image imho and indeed offers us the diagonal differences between forest and field!   Posted: 07/05/2021 14:48:05

I'm starting to get a feel for your style, Charles, and this is one of my favorites. I just love the shadows, their graphic quality, and what they tell me about the scene. The dark wavy line of the driveway leads the eye. Very nice.   Posted: 07/05/2021 16:25:00

I love the winding road, and your composition -- this has a lot of impact and just sings to me   Posted: 07/07/2021 14:32:36
