About the Image(s)

New Albany Ohio is noted for its uniform Georgian style architecture, white fences and walking paths. This is an image of one of many paths in this suburb of Columbus. I took this image during a morning walk. The path and fence created attractive leading lines. To keep the viewer’s attention on the path I eliminated the Robin, traffic signs and a tool shed. I cropped it to render a stronger landscape perspective, applied a warming filter and added a vignette. Camera data: Nikon D7000 (590nm filter), f/10, 1/250, 80mm, ISO=250.

Hi Charles,
Nice work with the curves and the wide tonal range that makes the picture pop. The vignette is handled well. It brings us into the scene, but it's hardly noticeable. The bright light created beautiful play with shadows. This picture is rich with patterns and details. It really holds my interest. Well done.

Hi Charles,

In my opinion, this is an image with a strong composition and quality tones in the IR spectrum. The slight brown toning adds to the warmth of an obviously sunny day. I wonder if you'd consider a slight increase in contrast to give the image more impact (my subjective feeling of the 'after' version).   Posted: 05/06/2021 10:32:13

I like the increase contrast. It does pull the eye of the viewer more to the middle and creates an interesting increase in dynamic range. Thanks.   Posted: 05/09/2021 20:34:45

I like the curve in the composition also, Charles, but tend to agree with Gary, that your version feels a little soft. I like Gary's idea, except that I think in his, the vignette becomes too prominent. But I think a touch more contrast would help.   Posted: 05/07/2021 17:34:27

Hi Charles
I fully endorse the views expressed by other members. A beautiful subject in IR, and the way you have composed. Full marks for that!   Posted: 05/07/2021 23:36:36

Hi Chuck,
You make me want to walk down your path on an adventure. The intricate design on the fencing, along with the play of light is interesting indeed. Great IR subject. There is a little flatness to it so maybe contrast in selected areas is a good idea.   Posted: 05/09/2021 10:00:22

Yes, a tad bit more contrast does increase dynamic and range and reduces flatness. Thank you Melanie.   Posted: 05/09/2021 20:41:09

Charles

A curved path flanked by a fence line and trees is always something I enjoy seeing. You wonder what is around the next turn etc Thankfully you brought your camera when walked it.

I think it works just as it is

Well done

Thank you Emil for the supportive comments. I took the walk to distract myself from worrying about my wife being diagnosed for a hip replacement. The camera added even more distraction.   Posted: 05/09/2021 20:38:55
