About the Image(s)

Converted RAW file to B&W using Topaz Studio 2. Adjusted contrast appropriately and took out the distracting shadow from the outside wall of the escalator. Also applied DeNoise A1 and finally added Darken / Lighten Center from Color Efex Pro.
PS. - Proved to be a tricky subject when it came to post-processing. Am open for any suggestions / improvements!

Hi Palli,
Interesting perspective on this beautiful architecture. The picture takes advantage of the great shapes, patterns, tones, and details in the scene. Nice composition and good handling of the technical aspects. I like the picture as presented.

The escalators make nice leading lines, and you have interesting architecture on top would good contrast, all making for an interesting image Palli. A couple of minor points: the escalators feel a little "soft" to me, maybe it's the focal point being up on top. Also, I'm one of those distracted by readable text in an image. The first two places my eye went were "David" and "kids". But overall it's very nice Palli.   Posted: 05/07/2021 17:42:28

Thanks Jack. I was double minded whether or not to remove the 'readable' text ... and you have confirmed this!   Posted: 05/07/2021 22:40:33

Hi Palli,

This is a wonderful storyteller! I'm not sure infrared is making any difference in the capture, given there's not much inside that would reflect IR and have that classic look. Just the same, the image is well composed and tells that story very well about the scarcity of shoppers during Covid. I believe I'd remove 'kids' but leave 'David' as an anchor to the fact it's a shopping center void of shoppers!   Posted: 05/08/2021 06:43:12

Hi Gary
Thanks for the comments to remove the text which I shall keep in mind!   Posted: 05/09/2021 02:48:28

Kudos to the photogs who ventured out last year to capture the empty streets, restaurants, Malls etc. It is part of our history

Your image is part of this Covid lock down theme, I like it. The escalators take you to the upper level of the scene. You might try a more evenly spaced composition next time of them if its possible

Suggest removing lower level text in background

Regards

Emil

Good point, Emil. Will keep the composition and eliminate the text if I get a chance to re-shoot the image.   Posted: 05/09/2021 02:52:15

Palli,

I don't think you need worry about a re-shoot. The attached version has the lower text, and also the reflected upper text (on the handrail, right) removed via Content Aware Fill and a little touch up. I took the liberty of mildly cropping your original and also boosting contrast. My intent was to instill an even more 'edgy' sense of emptiness inside the large, indoor shopping mall. See what you think...   Posted: 05/09/2021 07:41:11

Hi Palli, I'm a sucker for design and patterns Architecture is great for that. The curved line carry my eye through, which is very pleasing. I think though that I would like to see a version that either shows the whole escalator or just the curves and the ceiling.   Posted: 05/09/2021 10:11:23
