Yellow Bloom by Denise Burns

June 2021 - Yellow Bloom

About the Image(s)

I’m fortunate enough to live very close to a few local botanic gardens that provide many interesting subjects all year round. This image was taken with a Nikon D750 and Lensbaby Velvet 56 lens. Intentionally shot with a very shallow depth of field to preserve the interesting pattern of bokeh produced by the other blooms and foliage surrounding the subject. Minor adjustments made for clarity and texture using Adobe Lightroom

What a nice image Denise. Your capture of the double bump on the top of the blossom is great and I do like the bokeh. If it were mine I might bring down the brightness on the petals a little to try and bring out more detail to match the detail on the flower head. This is a happy flower and you captured that here.   Posted: 06/18/2021 14:33:28

Well done: An interesting and pretty flower. I like the way the out of focus yellow flowers in the background (along with the purplish ? other flower toward the upper right) add to the image.   Posted: 06/18/2021 14:48:09

I think that the bokah and purple are what make this image so appealing. I love the effect of the LensBaby 56, and you made great use of it here. I agree that the brightness could be toned down a bit on the petals.   Posted: 06/24/2021 08:06:41

The lens baby lenses excel in proving a soft and interesting look, and your image is a good example of this. To my eye this is most pleasing if the soft parts are matched by detailed regions. Here you have some of that but areas that contain some detail (flower head and foremost petals) needs a bit more contrast and 'depth' to balance out the image. So I agree with the earlier comments. Overall though, this is a nice image.   Posted: 06/25/2021 13:04:04
