January 2022 - At the Shutterfly Expo in St. Louis

About the Image(s)

My entry for January was taken at a Shutterfly Expo in St Louis. The subject allowed her face to be covered with black paint resulting in this image. It was a major shock to me that anyone would be prepared to do this for a photograph. It was taken with my LG cell phone at 1/30sec, f1.8 and ISO 100.

I agree, way over the top just for a photo. She also has paint handprints on her arms. It certainly resulted in an interesting photo however. I can't help but wonder, was the pattern in the carpet planned or was it just the way it was, in any case, I think it adds to the shot. Her hair was perfect for the shot, or else your monochrome conversion of her hair was perfect.   Posted: 01/07/2022 21:38:15

A well photographed image of a very unsettling situation.   Posted: 01/08/2022 17:47:32

This scene was definitely made for black and white. Once I get past the shock of paint covering the models eyes, this scene is all about contrast. The reflection of the window on the painted face emphasizes the glassy texture of the black paint and the texture and color of the white hair provides contrast. You nicely exposed the image.   Posted: 01/12/2022 00:58:04

I do scratch my head in wonder at some self-styled "artists" who do crazy things like this. A pile of bricks in the Tate. A sandwich left in an art gallery that people later thought was an exhibit. Bonkers in my view. Quite bizarre that anyone would think this worth doing.

In terms of a photograph, as the others said I think it's well done and definitely a mono.   Posted: 01/12/2022 03:24:14

Regarding monochrome conversion...nicely done. Otherwise, I can't say I care for the subject and composition...too many distracting elements between the rug, the curtains, the windows, and the protective sheet on the rug.   Posted: 01/12/2022 09:58:23
