About the Image(s)

This image as captured with a Nikon D500 with 200-500mm lens at 200mm from a pontoon boat early September, 2021 in the middle of the James River southeast of Richmond, Virginia. The capture was handheld with auto ISO 1100, 1/1600s, f/6.3, -1 EV, 7:45 AM with some sunlight illuminating the bird and the fish it had just caught. I processed the image in Adobe Lightroom and DxO Nik Silver Efex using both global and selective toning to create the effect I desired. I thought this image was a good subject for monochrome conversion to enhance the drama of the flight.

Great action shot. The spread of the wings is magnificent. I would try a little selective burn of the body to see if more detail can be brought out.   Posted: 10/05/2021 14:51:19

Magnificent shot. Great timing. Yes, I too could be picky and look for a little more detail.   Posted: 10/05/2021 17:43:50

The right bank maneuver and the outstretched wings make this a memorable image. The focus and lighting on the bird is excellent in my opinion. The fish is hard to notice at first. I am not sure what could be done about that.   Posted: 10/09/2021 12:46:26

The bird is well-positioned in the frame with his wings beautifully spread. Fine lighting on him and the water droplets. Good depth of field. Even if a pontoon boat is relatively stable, hand held is very impressive. Monochrome was a good choice.   Posted: 10/11/2021 23:18:34
