Chair Back by Helen Sweet

July 2021 - Chair Back

About the Image(s)

One of the categories for our club's scavenger hunt this year was Shadows. From years ago, I had a kitchen set: a round glass-topped table and four wrought iron chairs. I had new cushions made to drop into the seat frames. Then, before sanding and repainting the metal, I positioned this one on the pavement to create a shadow. Taken with my iPhone 11, 4.5 mm, f/1.8. In PS, I straightened it with transform >skew, increased the contrast, and took in into NIK Silver Efexs Pro.

Your image has a very nice interplay between the chair back and the shadows. Nicely done.   Posted: 07/10/2021 16:03:23

Wonderful use of shadows to increase the lines in the image. You apparently had the light source directly behind you which preserved the symmetry of the chair in the shadow. Well done. The texture, but no additional tonal variation of the background was a very good choice.   Posted: 07/19/2021 14:01:00

I like your image, tone, composition, and conversion method. I also like it viewed alternatively turned upside down. I also think that the background if oriented parallel to the wrought iron ornamental design verse the angler presentation would be more appealing.   Posted: 07/19/2021 17:22:51
