Missouri Mules on Parade by Don York

May 2021 - Missouri Mules on Parade

About the Image(s)

"Missouri Mules on Parade" was taken on July 4th during a parade at Red Lodge, Montana before the start of the rodeo. I loved the Missouri mules pulling the old wagon. Unfortunately, the diver's face is obscured, but I was more interested in the mules. It was taken with my SONY Alpha 7, 35 mm at 1/800th sec, f 5.0 and ISO 100.

I do like the detail of the animals in this picture. It has a nice flow, and some of the hooves have a bit of motion blur despite the shutter speed, which adds to the feeling of movement.

I think that, given your intention with the picture, a little cropped off the left, say up to the flag, or maybe including the flag as that would remove the wheel as well, would be better. I suspect the same is true for the sign on the right - better out than in. Pity about the hand obscuring the face - a short burst might have caught a better one. The same is true of the second person, the flag is obscuring him a little. Bad luck!   Posted: 05/05/2021 01:26:21

Wonderful detailed shot of the mules. I suggest cropping 1/3 off the left, almost to the flag and blurring the people on the right. It's all about the mules to me.   Posted: 05/07/2021 09:56:06

You have captured the old timey feeling of the event very will in my opinion. I would crop the right side to hide the sign post and on the left to remove the passenger on the wagon whose head is mostly obscured by the flag anyway.   Posted: 05/07/2021 18:28:01
