Orange Up Close by Barbara Asacker

November 2021 - Orange Up Close

About the Image(s)

Equipment: Nikon D850; 90mm macro lens; tripod; light tent

Settings: f/16; 1/5 second; ISO 64

This image is focus stacked. I shot 10 images and focus stacked them in
Helicon Focus. Cropped, sharpened, and applied a stroke in Photoshop.
Good lighting is necessary to focus stack so I used a light tent. I
also used f/16 to get good depth of field. Thoughts?

Nice subject well presented. Color is outstanding. Contrast with the stem is nice. It would not be necessaary to use a high f/stop since you are stacking the image and might even loose some definition through diffraction. It doesn't appear that you have though.   Posted: 11/07/2021 17:00:42

Thank you Neal I'll remember to use a low f/ stop. You have helped me a lot.   Posted: 11/07/2021 17:13:08

Hi Barbara: Interesting subject not often photographed. Good photo and post processing techniques. I do not think the light green in the upper left corner really adds anything, perhaps a bit of an eye catcher. You have however matched your border color with that green background and that part works well. Neal's advice regarding the use of f/16 in your focus stacking is well taken.   Posted: 11/12/2021 00:34:34

WOW....Bright and cheery. I like the position of the stem. Good composition. The focus is sharp and the lighting is also very nice. Good work!   Posted: 11/21/2021 10:11:36
