my image for July is a close-up of mating cicadas. After dealing with COVID for over a year, then we had the seventeen year cicadas emerge in droves! I live in a high-rise, and these cicadas were mating on the rim of my flower box on the seventh floor. One night they were pounding my windows, and hundreds were swarming on the outside brick walls. They laid their eggs and are in the ground until 2038!

Hi Alane: Good story telling nature image, these insects are very colorful and you have obtained very good sharpness on the subjects. As is the background is somewhat light and not enough out of focus so is a bit distracting. In my opinion this interesting image would be greatly improved by toning down the green part of the background and even the upper right somewhat. Really good capture on these interesting subjects.   Posted: 07/19/2021 00:43:59

Hi Alane, Nice sharp image of the cicadas. I can see a lot of texture in their bodies. I agree with Murphy in regards to the background. I feel it is in competition with the subjects and if modified the photograph would be great as it has a great deal of interest.   Posted: 07/24/2021 14:51:20
