July 2021 - Daylily

About the Image(s)

Nikon D850
90mm macro lens
1/100 second
f/14
ISO 200

I shot this flower handheld with my camera set on Aperture Priority.
Processed the image in Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop Elements.
I cropped, sharpened , and darkened the background.

Are the leaves dark enough?

Suggestions?

Very nice, I would darken the branch on the bottom left side, as well as the stork on the bottom right side. Good job.   Posted: 07/10/2021 13:51:02

Wow, nice image with great depth, color contrast and shading. The mark on the right pedal could be removed since it is distracting. Leaves are excellent and give some accent by contrasting color and being out of focus.   Posted: 07/10/2021 17:40:52

Hi Barbara: Really sharp details shooting at just 1/100 second handheld, you must have had your vibration reduction turned on. In my opinion the leaves are fine; if you wanted to experiment you could darken them down just a small amount and see what you think. I like the dark background without any distractions. Good Work !!   Posted: 07/16/2021 01:36:31

Hi Barbara, Lovely! The color, focus and composition are outstanding. You asked about darkening the leaves, I would do so but not to remove. When first looking at the image I thought the mark Neal pointed out was just a water droplet but after a closer look I would suggest removing it along with two other marks on the upmost petal. The mark on the left is barely visible but under an almost microscopic exam it is there. You have made an exceptional photo of the day-lily and I don't mean to be critical. It has impact!   Posted: 07/23/2021 11:08:33
