I KNOW I KNOW THAT'S A LOT OF LENS FOR A BUTTERFLY..BUT I WAS OUT SHOOTING ONE OF MY FAVORITE BIRDS THIS TIME OF THE YEAR HERE IN FLORIDA (THE SWALLOW TAIL KITE) WHEN A MINI SWALLOWTAIL WAS AT MY FEET TO MY SURPRISE, SO I JUST HAD TO TAKE AIM.

ACTUALLY THIS WAS BETTER THAN SOME OF MY KITES

IT PAYS TO LOOK ALL AROUND WHEN OUT SHOOTING, NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU MAY FIND.

Hi Richard: Wonderful nature image. Amazed you could obtain that much depth of field on the butterfly using 500mm lens at f/8, the butterfly looks sharp except for the right upper wing tip which to me is okay if that wing tip is slightly soft. Background is a bit busy, however it is well out of focus, in a perfect world I would like to see a bit more stem under the flower the butterfly is perched on, but you did good to be able to get this shot as is. Your image seems noise free shot at ISO 3200, these new camera bodies are amazing these days shooting at ISO 3200 without digital noise making its appearance.   Posted: 06/18/2021 01:46:10

Richard, what a beautiful, sharp butterfly image! The striped antenna really captures my eye. I wish the textured leaves in the right background were smoother, but nature does not always create the absolutely perfect backdrop!   Posted: 06/18/2021 13:50:45

Nice! Butterflies are a tricky subject (at least for me) so well done. Super pose and placement.

Color good, and plenty of detail. The plane of focus appears to have landed on the abdomen, but it's rather hard to be certain with these low resolution images. The head just seems a bit soft to me.

I'd like to see more space on the left and bottom, to move it out of the center, allow the composition to breathe a bit, and provide some stem for the flower.   Posted: 06/24/2021 17:50:03

Hello Richard, Colorful image especially with the butterfly perched on a similarly colored flower. I would like to see a little more of the flower. Great focus and lighting.
