What a nice capture. A higher f setting might have increased the depth of focus some. I wonder what this would look like in color. Nice composition with great impact.   Posted: 06/06/2021 18:07:22

Hi Alane: A very original subject and the hands against the dark background was a good choice. I do agree with Neal that better sharpness front to back on the hands would have been desirable. Would suggest using a much higher ISO and setting the lens aperture to f/16 would have brought those interesting bracelets into much better focus.   Posted: 06/07/2021 00:12:08

Hi Alane,
You managed to create a different presentation of "hands". This image must be striking in color, especially with the jewelry on her wrists. I'm sure you did well in the competition. Well done.   Posted: 06/10/2021 09:08:29

ALANE,
HANDS ARE REALY A TELLING OF A PERSON'S STORY, THERE IS SO MUCH TO LEARN BY THEM, THESE HANDS HAVE BEEN WELL WORKED AND HAVE SEEN MANY A HARD DAY
I LIKE THE PRESENTATION AND THE INTERLOCKING OF THE FINGERS, AS IF HOLDING THIS IMAGE TOGETHER.
HOPE YOU DID WELL IN THE COMPETITION, I KNOW THAT THE DOF HAS BEEN MENTIONED BY THE OTHERS,BUT IT REALLY DOESN'T BOTHER ME THAT MUCH AS IT KEEPS ME STUDYING THE PATERNS AND THE RINGS, EVEN THE NAILS..
I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SEEN THE LIGHTING MORE EVEN ON EACH HAND, THE HAND ON THE LEFT SEEMS A LITTLE OVEREXPOSED THUS LOSING SOME DETAILS IN THE HAND.
NICE JOB THOUGH   Posted: 06/13/2021 17:35:44

Hi Alane, Congratulations on entering the Macro competition and best of luck. It's already a winner by being accepted as a finalist. You do present us with some unusual images. I see the "shoe exhibit" is coming to one of the nearby art museums. I may go to have a look and possibly bring the camera.   Posted: 06/24/2021 14:18:11
For me, the DoF is excellent. Selective focus should direct our attention to the subject, and that's what it does here. Sharp images front to back require other techniques to direct the eye, and none of them should elevate emphasis on those bracelets. Love the rings, the fingernails, the icues. The appropriate use of B&W brings focus on texture and shape; the color image isn't nearly as interesting to my eye. I might suggest a slight vignette to help detract from the bracelets.
Congratulations on your selection as finalist.   Posted: 06/24/2021 18:05:11

Hi Alane: To me your color version has far greater impact and interest than the monochrome, it kind of jumps off the screen at you when it appears. The colors in the bracelets and then the dark blue-purple background adds that final touch. Good Work !!   Posted: 06/27/2021 23:52:45
