May 2021 - earwig

About the Image(s)

Sony 6300
4 second exposures
f/8
iso 1600.

This earwig was found in our garden. My usual preparation: Mounting of killed specimen; 40 images taken with WeMacro rail and processed in Helicon focus. Resulting image taken into PS and dust and
dirt removed, and vibrancy increased slightly. Why such a long exposure? I"ve found that reflections off an insect and be minimized by keeping the light
rather low. Many insects have highly reflective surfaces.

Hi Neal,
Your composition adds impact. The leading lines in its tail draws my eye up to his colorful head. You have created movement in the image. It appears as if the little bug was in the attack mode. Nice texture and sharp details. It is perfectly exposed. Well done, once again.   Posted: 05/04/2021 10:08:16

Hi Neal, Another fine example of your focus stacking skills. Who would have guessed an earwig could be this colorful, and this color adds a lot to the overall impact. Technical excellence and the red border matches the color of the head, then the black background color was idea for this subject. Composition is very graceful.   Posted: 05/17/2021 00:18:34

Neal, I also like the leading line taking my eye to the vivid red head.
You should come to Cincinnati during the next couple of weeks to shoot the cicadas that emerge every seventeen years! It is quite the experience!

Hello Neal, Your focus stacking skills are excellent. You have captured, processed and photographed a wide variety of little creatures. I am impressed with your photography and ability to identify of all the specimens you have photographed.
Exceptional work!   Posted: 05/19/2021 20:46:55

Well, ew.

Super composition and detail. With this particular view I'd like to see it positioned upon something. The floating in blackness here leaves me unsatisfied.   Posted: 05/29/2021 07:58:06

NEAL,
ANOTHER INTERESTING BUG I HAVEN'T SEEN FOR A LONG TIME, THEY WERE ALWAYS A PAIN IN MY *** (GARDEN).
AS THE OTHERS HAVE ALREADY MENTIONED GREAT JOB ON STACKING.
THE STROKE IS A GOOD THING HERE, AS IT SEPERATES THE IMAGE FROM THE SCREEN BACKGROUND.
THE LIGHTING IS WARM, GIVEING IT A VERY MOODY FEEL.

ONE THING I DO NOTICE IS THE EARWICK IS VERY CLOSE TO THE TOP OF THE IMAGE MAYBE A LITTLE MORE SPACE A TOP WOULD HEL[P TO GIVE IT MORE BALANCE.
BEING ON JUST THE BLACE BACKGROUND MAKES IT LOOK VERY SCIENTIFIC, MAY BE ON NATURAL BACKGROUND COULD HELP IT SEEM MORE ALIVE.

VERY SHARP AND NO LOSS OF DETAILS AS I REMEMBER THEM
THANKS
