About the Image(s)

After seeing Pete’s barn from September, I remembered that I also had a rebuilt barn that needed a sky. I had been having a hard time finding just the right sky. Hopefully you’ll all agree that this sky is just right. Not too dramatic but just right to lead your eye in along the stone wall. Taken on a NH hilltop in 2011.

My metadata was iso 400, 62mm on my 18-300, D300S,f4.8 and 1/30 sec. Processed in Lightroom and PS for sky replacement.

Agree with your choice to flip the scene so the sky is on the right and the barn is the first thing you see as your eye scans the image. Your sky replacement choice is perfect. It fills the sky with nice wispy clouds

Well done

The conversion made the image. It's wonderful and I would submit it to any competition.   Posted: 10/09/2021 14:07:27

Thank you Bev. I have to work on the sky and barn roof merge.   Posted: 10/09/2021 19:23:04

Bob, well done! I agree with Emil about your decision to flip the image and your choice of a sky. Perfect! Also, removing the light was wise. It didn't seem to fit the concept of an old barn.

To me, the sky just above the roof of the barn seems a bit lighter than I would have expected. I don't know if that's natural because of the clouds behind the barn. In any event, it's a very minor thing.

Thanks Pete. Yes, I noticed that at last second but figured I'd just leave it. When I get back from my trip, I'll have to experiment and move the sky around to see if that cures it. The Ps sky replacement tool does not move the sky around much at all compared to the Luminar tool, but it does more automatically. Maybe Adobe will update it in a week or two.   Posted: 10/09/2021 19:20:23

Nice. So much texture, the stone, the wood, the sky. Agreed that it works well in B&W, less interesting in the original. Agree on much else that has been said. Good conversion.   Posted: 10/13/2021 19:17:44
