I found this bird-of-paradise flower growing in a parking lot in Gardena, California. It was such a perfect specimen, I had to take a picture of it. Unfortunately, I only had my iPhone with me. I later took pictures of the leaves of the bird-of-paradise to add it to the image...sort of like wings. Get it? Bird. Wings. I isolated the flower from the background in Photoshop and made a black background. I, then, selected the two leaves and added them to the final composite image. The leaves were taken with a Panasonic Lumix GX9 camera with a 35-100 zoom lens @35mm (70mm equivalent). Exposure was 1/160 sec @ f/8.0 and ISO 800.

Hi David. This is an amazing graphic image of a beautiful Bird of Paradise. Your addition of the leaves really enhances the composition and was well worth the effort -great idea for sure. This image would be a great candidate for a large metal print. I have no suggestions for improvement - you've created a wonderful piece of art! Ingrid   Posted: 11/21/2023 00:31:49
Beautiful! The only comment I would have is to remove the white rims on the left leaf and also some residue on the lower right.   Posted: 11/21/2023 16:25:46

I really like the fact that you added the 2 leaves to the image, which makes it a stronger photo. Very sharp and colors are right on....   Posted: 11/22/2023 20:12:35
