Title: Head on Head
The photo was taken at the rugby league game, Hannover 78 vs the Rugby Club Leipzig. I have photographed a scrum in which the players of both teams face each other head-to-head shortly before the throw-in of the ball. The player on the left in the green jersey from Leipzig still has traces of blood on his right arm, which he got from an injury shortly before the scrum. The rugby boys are tough and just keep playing.
Camera and Lens: Canon EOS R5, RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM, lens at 200mm.
Settings: f:8 ISO 1250 1/1000 sec

Hans, it is obvious that rugby is a rough game and not appropriate for the faint of heart. If you look closely, all the players show signs of scratches, bruises or blood. Great action moment and you can feel the tension. Posted: 09/07/2023 18:18:03
This is a fine rugby shot Hans showing the head to head contest that occurs in the Rugby Union scrum and you have literarily caught this connection. A critical factor is the weight and grunt the forward packs have to have, many game results are determined by the forward pack ability to dominate opposition packs.
PS you say this is rugby league this is rugby union in league the forward pack will not have the two players at the far left and right on both sides of the packs. League 13 players Union 15 these are the two players both called Breakaway Forwards omitted from League. Forward play is also different in League, tactics of the forwards are not as important. Admittedly, not a sport I know much about. However, the shot tells a lot about the grueling nature of the sport and the physical toughness of the players. The blood, bruises, and facial expressions are great. Awesome shot! Posted: 09/18/2023 22:15:44
