About the Image(s)

Title: Question Mark Aerialist

This photo was taken during the Milwaukee Air and Water Show on July 27,2019. I’d like your opinion on whether you think this would be acceptable in PJ international exhibitions. It’s not a very dynamic or exciting-looking, but it is a little bit unusual. Is this is unique enough for acceptance in PJD internationals? I haven’t entered it in any competitions anywhere.

Camera and Lens: Canon 7D Mark II (1.6 crop sensor), EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS II zoom lens at 400mm.
Settings: f:8.0 ISO 200, 1/2000 sec, hand-held.

Hi Gerry, the judges at international exhibitions sometimes rate the photos very differently, I have already scored an HM with the same photo at one exhibition and at another it was not even an Acceptances. I would recommend you to submit the photo in PJ at international exhibitions.   Posted: 12/02/2021 04:04:16

Hi Hans,
As you suggest, I, too, expect this to be a "hit and miss" acceptance in internationals. I appreciate your comment on your experience with images like this.
Thanks.   Posted: 12/02/2021 11:21:18

Gerry, I agree with you that this image is a little bit unusual, since two of the three airplanes have reach an altitude, specially the orange one, where it looks it is beginning to fall down, maneuver I have seen in air shows. Each plane is in a different position, and it is a group of three. The image is sharp. The planes are so small in the frame that we can not appreciate any blur in the propellers.   Posted: 12/02/2021 14:29:27

Gerry. I have a relative who loves air shows and Audio Visuals of aircraft he has won many awards. I am sure he would say the aircraft are too randomly spread over the photo, his high scoring photos which I have seen are very spectacular, napalm explosions on the ground at the back of aircraft and planes flying in tight formations almost looking to collide. These spectacular airshow photos are not easy to get, in Melbourne Australia the RAAF about 1 every 2 years. I took some photos of a model aircraft club flying their planes, they did this weekly. The guys were chuffed that I was doing this they couldn't stop telling me about their planes and loved the photos I sent to them.   Posted: 12/02/2021 20:25:59

Gerry, I agree with the others that a lot of you score would depend on the make up of the judges. I think it is well worth entering. I like the vertical line formed by the smoke, and the patterns formed by the different positions of the plays is also interesting. Bruce   Posted: 12/26/2021 20:44:16
