About the Image(s)

Title: Football in the Rain

On August 28, 2021, I was at a football game after a two-year break from Covid 19. The Hildesheim Invaders had the Braunschweig Lions as guests. Unfortunately, the weather gods did not cooperate. It rained heavily almost the whole game. In this scene you can see very well the heavy rainfall. At two places at the edge of the field there was a small tent that I used as a shelter to take my photos. Under the difficult conditions, I was able to get some useful photos. In this picture, the Lions player in the white jersey with the number 13 passes the ball to his teammate with the number 84 in the right foreground.

Camera: EOS 5D MKIII
Lens: EF 70-200mm f2,8L IS II lens at 160mm.
Settings: f:5,6, ISO 800, at 1/ 1000 sec.

Hey Hans, Nice to see you were able to get out and shoot some new action. The two players on the ground are interesting and you can see the faces of all the other players. The rain adds even more interest especially if you have played any sport in that kind of conditions. Considering the light, it is well exposed and sharp. Well done. Well done Hans in taking this photo in such difficult weather conditions. It is the weather/rain that gives this photo drama and its always worth trying a photo like this in Open style competition. This year a judge of a local interclub Open comp judged a similar photo to yours and was overjoyed with the capturing of the rain, he said I've seen many sports photos in my day but its these ones that are in unusual circumstances that capture ones attention. It did not get 1st but it made it to the final 5, beaten by an orangutang, he loved its eyes. Go back through your photos from the day and have another look at what you photographed. Photos of 2-3 players may have greater impact this one maybe too busy.   Posted: 09/11/2021 02:37:56
