Spain vs USA by Bruce Benson

July 2021 - Spain vs USA

About the Image(s)

“Spain vs USA” Taken in San Sebastian, Spain at the Donisti World Football Tournament. This image is actually one of my players against Madrid. I liked the intense looks on the faces, the flying hair, and arm positions that showed the intensity of the play. In Washington state, all covid restrictions are lifted, so hopefully I can get out and get some fresh images now.

Hi Bruce, you've captured a beautiful soccer scene. The facial expressions and flying hair of the two players give the image a special statement. At 400mm focal length and f/4.0, the background is blurred in the image. Glad the restrictions are lifted because of Covid 19 in your state and you can now take good photos again. I get my second vaccination in two weeks and I hope to be able to participate in sporting events again in August.   Posted: 07/04/2021 10:02:49

Agree with Hans comment exactly. This photo shows more intensity of the contest between the 2 girls and ball is on the girls boot. The sweeping flowing hair which is synonomous with lady sports has also been captured. I should also add that black dots appear on the right side of the photo from the ground to just under the girls left hand some purist style judges may find this distracting, is this rain, dirty sensor, or ground material being lifted by the action?   Posted: 07/05/2021 04:32:14

Thanks Ronald, the black spots are ground up bits of rubber used to keep the blades of artificial turf separated. It is not common to see artificial turf in Europe but this Spanish field had it. Bruce   Posted: 07/11/2021 19:38:01

Another great shot. Good action, flying hair, determined facial expressions, nicely blurred background, and good composition. I might crop a little of the blurred grasses in the foreground.
Is someone else coaching, or are you the coach and photographer at the same time?   Posted: 07/11/2021 16:12:29

Thanks Gerry, My daughter was coaching this team and I was helping to document the games an provide action photos to the girls. From 1983-2012 I took over 1,000 young soccer players around the world to play in international tournaments. I started doing photography in 2002 and this gave me many opportunities for great soccer images. One of the tournaments we competed in many times featured over 1600 teams from 60 nations. My daughter organized this team after I retired from organizing teams.   Posted: 07/11/2021 19:23:40
