About the Image(s)
Title: Jump
This is an older photo of mine from 2008. It was taken at the German Championships of athletics all-around in Hannover. I wanted to take a photo in which the pole vaulter is hanging in the air with the bent pole. I looked for a location opposite the jump of the pole vaulters, where I could then make this picture. In the background, there’s another pole vaulter waiting for his turn.
Camera and lens: EOS 5D, EF 300mm f:2,8 L IS,
Settings: f:5, ISO 640, 1/2500 sec.

Hans, Your you picked a perfect location to set up for this one. The image really shows the power thought the bent pole the muscles and the look on the vaulters face. The totally black background looks a little strange to me but overall a really nice image. Bruce   Posted: 06/02/2021 16:08:49

I like the action shown in this image. Very nice capture. I find the other vaulter distracts me as I tend to look back and forth between the two. I'd also like to see a stroke around the image as the black background merges with the black of the page.   Posted: 06/09/2021 17:24:31

This photo is a great capture you have thought out how to take a pole vaulter at a very difficult position and normally you would look up being at ground level to a vaulter or be above if in a stand. Facial expression perfect as face muscles will contort as power is released in the vaulters body.
The guy seated is probably a photographic distraction if many people were around may be more suitable as a background as long as they were not in loud colours. This is IMO but you could say this other vaulter gives the photo a sense of a real athletic sports event, this is what happens.   Posted: 06/16/2021 06:43:38

I really like this image. The pole is a great lead-in. The black background is dramatic, yet the waiting vaulter, nicely placed in the frame, adds context to the action. And the strain on the vaulter's is also great.
I think the highlights are very bright, so I tried to tone them down a bit, and I cropped a little off the bottom. I'm not sure if the result is better, but I like your original, too.   Posted: 06/19/2021 00:42:23

Hi Gerry, I also like your tighter crop of the photo, so the white line on the right in the foreground is no longer in the picture. The photo was taken at noon in the sunlight, hence unfortunately the harsh contrasts.   Posted: 06/19/2021 01:37:57

I LIKE the harsh contrasts. I think they add tension to the mechanical tension of the vaulting action.   Posted: 06/26/2021 22:30:03
