Bank Street Shot by Bill Wright

August 2022 - Bank Street Shot

About the Image(s)

It was taken with my new canon 90D on the first day I had the camera out. I also have only recently started to learn Lightroom and Photoshop having previously used only Pixelmator Pro. Lots of new learning. Now that I am using new software I am curious as to thoughts about the fire escape and signage. Should they stay in adding to the scene or should they be removed as distracting elements. I was drawn to this as it was less than half a block from one of the more up scaled areas of our city.

Bill, interesting image of a dark alley/backstreet and the central point of interest is at its end, the graffiti on the door. The fire scape is an important element in the context of the image and I do not think it should be removed. Also the bright spot in the upper section takes your eyes directly to it. The sidewalls of the narrow street works as leading lines. I cropped some of the right sided wall to place the door at the end of the alley off center. Using the Masking tool in ACR I reduced the brightness on the upper side, and added some light to the door using a radial gradient brush   Posted: 08/04/2022 19:38:43

Bill - I like how the perspective that you chose to shoot draws the viewer into the image and believe that the fire escape and signage are an integral part of the scene. Isaac's edits, especially adding some more brightness to the door at the end of alley adds more depth and interest to the image. B   Posted: 08/07/2022 18:38:37

An interesting photo. I agree too bright in upper right and hence the need for Isaac's correction. Adding light to door also an excellent edit. Personally, I like this photo a lot. It has texture, lines, color, and geometric shapes and tells a story that you obviously wanted to catch. Its something we might observe daily and simply walk on by. Also interesting, you chose to stand left of center. Why? Your reason/comments as well as others are being solicited.   Posted: 08/07/2022 21:08:51
