This image was created in Jerusalem - Israel at the Wailing (Western wall - Temple Mount) wall a few years ago. This is a must stop for any visitor to Jerusalem, specially if you are Jewish. This sight is frequent where you can see a soldier in service and armed, in this action, and of course the more religious people. I used a Nikon D850 with the Nikkor zoom lens 28-300 mm f/ 3.5-5.6 @ 105 mm and with these settings: ISO 1000, f/10 and 1/200 sec + 1/3 EC
The image was PP in Lightroom, straightened and converted to B&W using Silver Efex 2 for more drama

I believe the two gentlemen dress represents two (of three?) different Jewish peoples beginnings and traditions. Please reply. Also, the use of three, not only according to photographic rules/balance but the display of traditional and then add the present day soldier. I also find the rough wall contrasting nicely with the smooth shimmering and reflective paver block surface. Posted: 06/15/2022 10:55:18

Isaac - What a contrast! Your tight crop really focuses the viewer on the three men praying, two dressed according to the style of their religious group and then my eye moved to the young soldier with an automatic weapon (wearing Tefillin). Bruce, not reason at all. I guess it looked good to my eyes. Just did a levels adjustment making the blacks darker. The surface of the wall now looks grungier Posted: 06/16/2022 19:59:25

Isaac, this is an interesting image; the contrast of the different modes of attire, and ages, their prayer gestures and yet the image is cohesive because they are all men, wearing hats and facing a common wall. Nice clean background and great textures of rough walls contrasting with the smooth floors. I like the composition of three-quarter profile and diagonal camera placement adding depth. Good vertical crop and clean edges with no distracting elements. I also like your "grungier" version which brings out more tonal values and is a bit edgier Posted: 06/18/2022 06:45:06
