Friday Morning by Dr. Isaac Vaisman, QPSA

May 2022 - Friday Morning

About the Image(s)

Friday Morning was created in Israel a few years back, in a very religious neighborhood. I had gone to buy some religious articles in preparation for my grandson’s Bar Mitzvah, and this specialty store was in this area near Tel Aviv. Friday morning everybody is getting ready for Friday Night/Shabat celebration, and most of the men are out buying the bread (Chala) and other supplies, while most of the women are home cooking for the evening meal and for the next 24 hours. Here you can see a father with what looks like twin daughters.
I used my Nikon D850 with the Nikkor zoom lens 28-300 mm f/3.5-5.6 2 28 mm and with these settings: ISO 250, f/8 and 1/125 second. The image was PP in Lightroom adding some light to the shadows, and cropped.

Isaac - You captured a lot (in a good way) in this image. There is the action on the street showing the people shopping and the interaction between the father and twin girls. I have not been to Israel ---- your photo gives me a good idea of Friday morning's shopping. I think you could also create a slightly different image just showing the interaction between father and daughters by cropping the around the image further (and cloning out the woman's dress). I really enjoy when you place things in social context. It makes the photo so much more meaningful. I like it without any additional cropping as it shows the busyness of the occasion. I am drawn to the repeating patterns - the bread racks, the fire escapes and the arches reflected in the window. Does it need a slight vertical perspective adjustment? Nice image

A very nice image, I like the racks of fresh Chala ,out side of the store. I almost can smell the bread. I like your image as you have it. it shows the movement of the people buying their supply's for the evening. Great shot as it tells a story.   Posted: 05/16/2022 12:40:31

Isaac, I also like the original version as presented; which shows the activity of the street and adds a layer of motion of the other shoppers. The yellow color of the girls' tops are echoed in the bread of the bakery which surround the subjects. The clean blue background behind the girls serves as a clean backdrop and provides negative space for the eye to rest as well as a focus point of the story. The father's gaze on the twins add to story to separate them from the rest of scene. Well done Post processing!!
