About the Image(s)

After cycling for 5 days in the Cuban country-side with a bicycle touring company we spent our last day wandering in Havana on a bright, sunny afternoon. The boy holding the tire seems to struggle carrying it while his friend appears to be offering his help and appreciation. This shot was taken as part of a burst of 10-15 photos. I chose this image as it best captured both boy's faces and had enough room in the image for them to keep walking through the image.

Bruce, what a great interaction between the kids. The one dressed in white most likely the family has made commitments with Santeria, so they will dress permanently in white. The other kid holding the tire looks concentrated as how he will toss it. The sidelight coming from the front creates a very nice shadow which gives more depth to the scene. It is sharp, and the red shit really stands out in the overall almost monotone environment. Plenty of space in the front to let the tire roll.   Posted: 01/10/2022 16:05:58

Thanks for the added information about the child dressed in white. I had no idea. B   Posted: 01/29/2022 20:27:16

There is a lot to like about this image. The long shadows, the texture of the wall, the lines of the wall and sidewalk and then the round tire.
The face of boy in the red shirt seems lighter than head and arms. I'm curious if you would consider converting to b&w and leave the shirt red. Post it if you wish to try.   Posted: 01/12/2022 21:41:03

This is a real street scene, a universal fact: children playing in the street. Well portrayed: beautiful colors in which the children stand out against the gray background. Interaction between the characters and nice shadows.   Posted: 01/14/2022 06:54:58

Bruce, nice textures throughout the image which keeps the eye moving around. I like the monochromatic color scheme broken by the touch of red. Clearly defined subjects with great lighting to produce shadows which add depth to the image. The circular tire is an added bonus.   Posted: 01/18/2022 07:23:20

Bruce, this image immediately says story to me. I am impressed with its framing. The sharp focus and shading add interest to the image. Good job.

Great shot, for all the reasons your group has discussed. I also think it would look good as b/w, and although it is tempting to keep the red shirt, I find that effect in general a bit too cliché.   Posted: 01/28/2022 11:20:03
