October 2021 - Sprucing Up

About the Image(s)

Local convenience store sprucing up the front entrance. Used 50mm lens at 1/2500sec at f/8. In PS straightened and cropped. I used Topaz deNoise to clean up the image.

Gloria, there's a story and a lot to look at in this photo. I would suggest cropping on all sides to eliminate nonessential elements and concentrate on the three people and their activity. LR shadow slides should lighten the dark areas of the photo.   Posted: 10/04/2021 09:29:42

Gloria, Good street scene, and I must agree with Les that there is a lot going on and each element complements the others. Group of three, two working on sprucing-up the establishment, and a customer coming in. I used several sliders in ACR, first made all the lines straight in both directions, cropped the empty space and added light to the shadows, and reduced slightly the bright areas. The image is sharp.   Posted: 10/07/2021 16:07:13

I often read comments of cropping dead space and to me that means getting closer to the subject. I contemplate - would cloning out cones help image? Here I don't think so as they provide a base and stability. I'm hopeful we will soon return to photographing people without masks.   Posted: 10/09/2021 17:17:39

Gloria - This image made me laugh with the largest sign advertising 'worms'. Since I live in suburban, northern New Jersey we see lots of lottery signs but no worm signs. So, the question I asked myself.... "Is the woman going to the store to buy lottery tickets or worms?" I like the action of the two men working on the storefront along with the action of the woman opening the door to enter the store. Les's suggestion to crop the image creates more focus on the key elements of the photo. B   Posted: 10/10/2021 20:49:40

This is a charming shot, however you choose to crop or alter the perspective.
But the title must be "Worms."   Posted: 10/15/2021 17:59:42
