Mermaid 197 by Daniel De Cort, QPSA

September 2021 - Mermaid 197

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken recently during a walk on the seawall of Koksijde on the Belgian coast. Because it was still early in the morning, not many people were on the beach yet. This way I could take all kinds of pictures through the beach cabins.
I used: 1/500, f13, ISO 250 and 53mm.

Daniel, here we have two stories going on: the artistic represented by the painted white box with the mermaid, and balanced by the symmetric non painted one with just the number 197; and the action going on at the seashore given by the girl standing on her hands and watched by the sitting one. The white boxes in addition are framing this action taking place. The image is sharp and the colors are well managed. Last but not least, the shovel balances the girls in the frame.   Posted: 09/14/2021 22:02:27

I got a real good chuckle looking at this wonderful photo. My eye was immediately drawn to the action of the hand-standing girl and the person who appears to be looking at you shooting the photo. The two cabanas frame the image well with the added attraction of the mermaid mural. I like the overall balance and colors of the image. B   Posted: 09/15/2021 12:17:09

You do have a knack for well composed photo's. I have come to expect your artistic submissions. In this photo I think stepping up closer would leave us to close to the boxes and backward steps would leave with the boxes as main subject. Instead you opted for a balanced composition. Well done.   Posted: 09/27/2021 09:25:33
