Hard Thrust by Ed Taje

October 2024 - Hard Thrust

About the Image(s)

This was taked from a site above the action at the annual Cowichan Exhibition this year, and depicts medieval hand to hand combat. I did crop to eliminate the spectators to feature the two re-enactors and the bending of the sword.. Iso 200, f8, 1/500. 202mm.

Nicely done. Nothing to improve here.   Posted: 10/02/2024 13:06:22

Ed, in these festivals we have to be happy with what we can capture being the vantage points sometimes difficult to approach, or too many spectators around and in the background as you describe. The image is at peak of action between the two contenders. It is sharp. It is a pity that one of the man is amputated.   Posted: 10/03/2024 21:53:52

Ed - Neat action. I'm also guessing that you were at some type of elevated platform or stand. A shot at the same level as the two combatants might have been interesting as well (though as you mentioned it may have then picked up all of the spectators). B   Posted: 10/14/2024 14:36:07

It would have been better if the leg of one the fighter was not cropped out. The fact the POV is above do not pull you into action but keeps you as neutral observer.   Posted: 10/18/2024 01:39:13

Ed--I'm going to suggest something radical: make the whole image about the right figure and crop in very close to him which will leave just enough of the second figure to suggest hand-to-hand combat plus add a little color from the blue and the bit of red. This could also remove the distracting wooden structure. The right figure is dynamic and interesting enough to be the sole subject. Just a thought.   Posted: 10/30/2024 20:24:29
