Chain, Chain, Chainnnnnnn by Bob Crocker

About the Image(s)

Was roaming around Sturgeon Bay (WI) looking for photo ops. It's still early Spring for us, so there is not a lot of color in the environment yet. This roll of chain caught my eye. I like the repeating pattern of the chain. Shot with my Sony a6500, Tamron 17-70 2.8 lens. ISO 200, f7.1 at 1/200 sec.

Great image. I have taken several photos of chains along the way as well, and I think they make a great subject. Did you try bumping up the clarity or sharpening the image at all? Just thinking that may enhance some of the rust texture.   Posted: 05/13/2022 14:03:01

I like the textures in this pattern shot. At first, I felt it needed a focal point, but the composition began to grow on me. The textures are nice. I opened it in Camera Raw and upped the clarity and brought down the highlights just a little. I think t gives it just a little more "punch".   Posted: 05/14/2022 14:24:02

The chains make a great pattern image. I like that they go up a bit from left to right -- that adds a lot of interest. I also like that they are sharp at the bottom but then are a bit out of focus at the top, that helps the eye to keep coming back to the lower part. I agree with Jessica that a bit more texture would help and Cindy's image is a real improvement.   Posted: 05/14/2022 14:48:03

You know when you have a good shot. The composition is pleasing with both vertical and horizontal patterns and textures. This must be huge links weighing tons by the look of the textures on the individual links. I could be wrong though.   Posted: 05/21/2022 15:05:58

Thanks all for the comments. I will play around with clarity, and/or micro contrast sliders.   Posted: 05/25/2022 11:27:40
