Barn Owl 4 by Cindy Lynch

November 2021 - Barn Owl 4

About the Image(s)

I was able to go to a photo day at the World Bird Sanctuary where they brought our may of the birds for us to photograph. I took so many photos of theis barn owl until i could get him looking at me. In post processing, I enhanced the details and cropped in on his face. Settings; f/6.3, 1/100 seconds, ISO 100 and 300 mm focal length.

Your patience was worth it. I think this is a great image. I like the variety of textures and lines you captured. The barn wood (?) behind the owl and then the various lines and textures of the owl's feathers. Amazing. Did you use Topaz Glow at all? It has that sort of feel.   Posted: 11/09/2021 08:45:10

Very perceptive of you! Yes, I used Dream with a very low opacity.   Posted: 11/09/2021 09:04:39

This shot deserves printing and framing. I like the way the owl is lightly looking to he left of camera. Some cameras have focus beams so I wonder if the owl saw the camera?   Posted: 11/16/2021 22:56:23

Wow, Beautiful image Cindy - frame worthy for sure. It's great you had the opportunity to get him looking at you (or through you). Those feathers in the face are nice and sharp. If I had to nitpick, I would wonder how a little more DOF, say at f8, could brought in even more of those great feathers. Well done !   Posted: 11/19/2021 13:38:33

I think the Glow filter may have lessened the DOF. Perhaps masking and erasing it from the edges of the bird would have restored the DOF>   Posted: 11/24/2021 21:18:01

I love this image Cindy - you did well to be so patient and get an image where he was looking at you. It really adds to the connection with this beautiful bird. I also like your subtle processing.   Posted: 11/23/2021 16:21:59
