Donkey Tails by Jessica Manelis

About the Image(s)

My father has an incredible garden. Last month I was out at my parents house and walking around outside. He had these Donkey Tail succulents growing in a fountain. I loved the way they were draping off the fountain and the different lines they created. I shot this with my iPhone and enhanced the color a bit.

You have remarkable clarity, detail and exposure in this image. The color is great, as well. Technically, well done. Compositionally, I might have liked a horizontal/landscape crop showing the bottom of the donkey tails and not as much of the fountain. Perhaps cropping down to show just a little of the concrete. As it is now, I am not sure if you wan me to focus on the plant or design of the fountain.   Posted: 10/11/2021 21:10:15

As beautiful and as interesting as the donkey tails are, my eyes keep looking at the leading lines of the fountain above them. You could almost have two pictures here -- the geometrical lines of the fountain and the luscious looking donkey tails. Perhaps you may consider converting picture into monochrome balancing the image.   Posted: 10/13/2021 14:32:18

Nice detail and color. Succulents make good subject matter. I like the lines of the fountain that flow well with plants but I agree with Cindy that showing the bottom of the donkey tails would strengthen the composition.   Posted: 10/15/2021 09:07:36
