Rain Drops by Jessica Manelis

September 2021 - Rain Drops

About the Image(s)

This is a plant I have growing around my front deck. I can't remember the name of the plant, but basically it travels and grasps hold of whatever it gets close to, including wood. Recently after it rained, this vine was suspended in the air with the drops of water clinging to its roots. I shot this with my iPhone and processed in PS Express (also on my iPhone). I upgraded my phone for the better camera, so I have been experimenting.

Your phone did a great job of capturing the details and rain drops. The main subject is very detailed with nice color saturation. For me, there is too much background that distracts from your subject, especially the bright dots at the top. I suggest cropping very close to the root and making it a panel and then darkening down whatever background is left.   Posted: 09/06/2021 11:14:42

A nice sharp focus on the subject. The blurred background is perfect for this shot leaving attention where it should be, the subject. If you zoom in on the drops, you can see a lensing effect of the background. Hairs of the vine slightly obstruct the water drops. Keep up the experimenting.   Posted: 09/08/2021 09:02:55

Nice capture with your phone camera, they are getting better and better. Since the stem and drops are the main focus, getting in closer, as Cindy stated would make a stronger composition. If you crop, maybe try making the stem go diagonal across the frame instead of horizontal.   Posted: 09/12/2021 10:21:27

Very nice sharp image. I would crop down a bit from the top.
What phone did you get?
I'm switching back to Apple from my Google Pixel 3, to an iPhone 13 Pro, getting it Friday.
