The Last Dandelion by Bob Crocker

June 2021 - The Last Dandelion

About the Image(s)

"Had an abundance of dandelions this Spring and this is one of the last seed heads remaining. Taken with my Sony a6500 at f5 ,ISO 800 at 1/640 sec.with a 90mm macro lens. Shot at a higher ISO than would have liked but there was a breeze making it harder to freeze the moment. This guy was in the shade, so I added a little fill light with a single Adaptalum LED arm. Processed in ON1 Photo RAW, boosting the white slider, adding a little bit of dynamic contrast, sharpened just the middle stems that were in focus, and added a vignette. Applied a little noise removal just on the out-of-focus areas where it seemed most noticeable, then cropped a little."

I love capturing dandelions! I think you did a great job capturing areas of focus and making the composition interesting. It has a very abstract quality about it.   Posted: 06/09/2021 08:16:33

Thanks Jessica; for sure, dandelions are always fun, I'm sure this wouldn't be my last.   Posted: 06/10/2021 14:45:31

I like the subject matter and centered composition very much. You handled the whites very well and have good details and focus in the center. In order for it to "pop" a little more I darkened the border quite a bit.   Posted: 06/11/2021 14:23:51

Hi Bob - your image has such interest and depth to it. I like that I can see the centre of the dandelion head through the seeds.
Great capture, and great editing!   Posted: 06/16/2021 16:53:49
