Swallowtail Butterfly by Cindy Lynch

June 2021 - Swallowtail Butterfly

About the Image(s)

I was able to get this butterfly shot with the butterfly far enough away from the background that it was blurred. I was happy that I could get the legs and antennae sharp. I liked the bright color of the flower and thought it set off the butterfly well. Settings: f/6.3, 1/200 sec., 300 mm focal length, ISO 100.

This is a great capture. You have a lot of detail on the butterfly, which is the focus and although there are points on the flower that are a little blurry, it does not take away from the overall image. The darker areas of the background feel like they are crowding the image to me, though.   Posted: 06/09/2021 08:10:17

Hi Cindy, this is a lovely image. I think I would like to see less background. Why don't you try cropping in a little more? Your butterfly is so beautiful and sharp, she deserves to be the centre of attention.   Posted: 06/16/2021 16:46:10

Great picture, Cindy. The pink of the flower contrasts beautifully with the butterfly. I agree with Jessica about the dark spots in your background. I would lighten those somewhat to even up the background little. Even though the butterfly is your main subject, I think the flower enhances it. I would crop a little of the stem and a little on the sides.   Posted: 06/17/2021 17:22:19
