Sweet Magnolia by Jessica Manelis

May 2021 - Sweet Magnolia

About the Image(s)

I think this is a Magnolia. I went to a botanical garden last month. A little early for a full bloom experience, but I found this magnolia tree with some flowers. I loved the color. This is straight out of camera. I am experimenting with doing some more "artsy" things. I like the color play of pink on green and the bokeh at the bottom. I would love your suggestions.

I like the color and the sharpness of the interior petals. The whites of the outside petals I think are a little over exposed. The soft background with Bokeh looks nice.   Posted: 05/11/2021 16:28:45

Very soft and delicate with a wonderfully blurred background. I really like the center petals of the flower and agree with Bob that the white side of the outer petals are a little bright and without details. Being so bright, they pull my eye there. I would suggest that you include the tip of the petal on the left or else crop in even more so it looks intentional.   Posted: 05/12/2021 21:05:42

Jessica, I did not know that the magnolia bloom comes in different colors. I have only seen it in white. The pink bud is so soft and beautiful. It is such a shame that the tip of of the left petal is missing. I would suggest following Cindy's advice on this.   Posted: 05/13/2021 20:47:06

I never realized how well pink and green work together. Looks like great lighting both on the subject and background. The angle of the flower is perfect and if you stepped to the side it would change. The small cutoff stake away from the subject.

I wonder how many shots you did of the subject? Think of you next flower close up as a supermodel at a photoshoot. Have fun and think outside the box. Sometimes the pics I think will be the worst come out the best.   Posted: 05/25/2021 21:45:46
